Please read the following information before going to get your marriage license. It will save you from having to make two trips! The Bride and Groom need to apply in person. If one of you is unable to apply in person, you will need to fill out an absentee application that has to be signed by a notary public. In the state of Colorado, the legal marriage age is 18. If you are under the age of 18, you will need to have a notarized consent form signed by a legal guardian. You will need to provide your Social Security card and one of the following forms of ID:
Passport Birth Certificate with a raised seal Other state or military ID court your divorce was finalized in, or the date and place of death. The Fee is $20 cash. You cannot pay with credit card or check. The license is only good for 30 days. There is no waiting period, so it can be used right away. In the state of Colorado, blood tests are NOT required. In the State of Colorado the bride and groom can marry themselves or a registered minister, pastor, judge, magistrate, or certain Indian Tribe members can marry them. In other words, anyone (your cousin, a friend) can perform the ceremony (this is a lovely option for couples traveling to the area who do not have an established relationship with a minister). To make it legal the bride & groom must sign as the official on the marriage certificate and have one witness sign as the witness. The person performing the ceremony can sign as the witness or someone else can sign as the witness. You just have to make sure that the bride and groom sign the certificate so they are marrying themselves. When you apply for the marriage license tell them you are marrying yourselves and have them show you exactly where to sign. You can apply at any one of the following locations to obtain your Colorado Marriage License: Summit County (970) 453-2561 Office Locations (Hours are Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm) 208 Lincoln Avenue, Breckenridge |

Please keep in mind that when planning a wedding and reception at any private home in summit county, the outside becomes off-limits (except at River Meadow House) after 10:00p.m. This is due to town noise ordinances and the potential for permanent residences who may call the police and shut down the wedding. |
